If the Dutch meat sector has its way, only sustainable soya will be used to produce animal feedingstuffs as of 2015.

If the Dutch meat sector has its way, only sustainable soya will be used to produce animal feedingstuffs as of 2015. This 100% objective is also fully endorsed by Dutch pork producers. The objective has become an important shared criterion in the central purchasing conditions adopted by Dutch supermarkets.

Chairman Goebbels, from the Dutch Meat Association (COV): ‘The Dutch meat sector continues to ensure our suppliers meet the requirements of our customers. This is a commitment we have made to social organisations dedicated to this specific matter.’ Supplier agreements with the animal feedingstuffs industry and the livestock farming industry have been incorporated into the chain's quality management systems and the purchasing conditions of supermarkets.

In terms of supplying sustainably produced soya, the COV is responsible for ensuring enough sustainable soya is available in the market. Goebbels: ‘Consumers must have complete confidence that soya used to produce Dutch pork is obtained in a socially responsible manner. Arrangements on this front are very clear and are always adhered to.
